Justine on the new Wizard Uno

September 29th, 2011

In short its a fantastic nappy & I love it. It has fit really well with newborn skinny legs (3.8 kg) & still now with chubbier legs (over 5 kg) with no leaks when other fitted Nappies have worked only on the chubby legs!
The elastic is lovely & soft & fits, well. It also doesn’t wick moisture out unlike some bindings.
It seems to have a good capacity but dries really well & quickly.

It’s also nice & trim so u can put it under any clothes without worrying about the bulk.
So easy to use to because its all ready to go without any restuffing etc. This could easily become my favourite nappy! If I could I would definitely stock up but sadly we don’t need any more nappies!

From Louise – so sad when you don’t need anymore nappies! Mother-ease have designed these nappies as premium nappies – sized so they fit perfectly, super-trim fabric and super-reliable. Mother-ease want you to enjoy them every time you use them and fall in love with them – just like Justine did …

Another Duo fan!

September 15th, 2011

Tamara was testing the Duo nappies for us. At first she was unsure, especially of the fit – but now she is a huge fan! Read on …

When I got the package my first thoughts were how adorable and soooo cute they were – I can’t wait to use them.

I loved the simplicity of them and am surprised more washable nappies don’t have the pop in and out insert style – it makes alot of sense. I use quite a variety of washable nappies with my 2yr old – itti bitti, totsbots, pikapu, and mini lala and this would be the first time I would use an insert that pops in and out – they look so easy to use .
The bamboo absorber feels gorgeous and immediatley I thought that willl be the best to use. After the first initial couple of washes the polyester dries the quickest followed by the cotton and then the bamboo, so if the weather isn’t that great you would have to be prepared for the bamboo to take a couple of days to dry.

My baby was born 31st July and I first tried to use them when he was 3 weeks old weighing 3.9kg (clothed weight) but they are too big. The length comes up to his chest and around the tops of his legs aren’t tight enough to seal.

I will try again at 5 weeks.

… and when she tried again …
I’m LOVING the nappies. I tried them again at the 5 week mark (4.1kg) and they fit him really well. The extra few grams made such a difference. We have had a few leaks with big poos but i think that would have happened with disposables too. I am also using one size AIO in a different brand and I have found that whilst he is so little, your nappies work the best because they are sized. More than one cover is required for 3 inserts as it gets quite wet and dirty (with poos) and so I had to use other nappies whist it dried. It is easily washed and does dry very quickly though. All 3 inserts have been lovely against his skin, no signs of nappy rash and although the bamboo is the softest I would proberbly go for the polyester and cotton inserts as they dry quicker (within a day), even inside the house.
All in all fantastic nappies, would definatly buy more, and absolutly recommend them.

Notes from Louise:
* Tamara has the XS size Duo covers and XS/S inserts which are supposed to fit from 3kg. Sometimes fit is a matter of taste – what some people would class as too big is actually fine and works well. Given though, that Tamara didn’t find the nappy usable until around 4kg it would probably be best to get a trial and try this nappy before investing in a big XS package.
* Tamara commented that although the bamboo fabric felt the nicest she would probably buy the microfibre or cotton because of the quicker drying time. Kirrily (one of our other Duo testers) only took the bamboo to try and commented that it was lovely but did take *ages* to dry. If drying time is an issue we recommend the microfibre or cotton inserts.

New Duo Review

September 9th, 2011

Here is what Kirrily had to say about the new Mother-ease Wizard Duo nappies. Kirrily is reviewing the bamboo OS inserts.

What did you think when you first saw the nappy?
Looks cute and not too bulky. Very soft bamboo, feels lovely and cover feels not bulky. Elastic seems nice and soft.

Fit – does it fit nicely?
Yes fits very nicely. I can even fit stretchy jeans over it. No gaps around legs or waist. No leaks. I originally thought i had to have it tighter than it was, but it dosent need to be overly tight to have a snug fit. Once I got the fitting right on second use no marks on legs from elastic of nappie or cover. Aso still fits well with extra boosters inserted.

Does it conform to the advertised weight range?
Yes definitely. My daughter is 2yr old approx 13kg and fits her perfectly (I have large size covers but the insert is one size)

Use – is it easy to put together and put on?
Yes. Takes a slight bit more amount of time to use the clips, but advantage is that gives you a really secure fit and cover goes exactly over the edges stopping leaks and you just clip once on baby – not clip or fold nappy then clip cover separately.
When out and about or if there is a messy ppo it is a bit of a hassle to and takes longer to pull the nappy off, change insert then put back on if you are using only the one cover with multiple nappies. I personally would buy more covers for convenience but can see the advantage in cost and bulkiness saving to just use the one with 2 or 3 nappies. Cover also has been fine to resuse twice in one day and no smell building up.

Washing – is it easy to wash? – Drying – is it easy to/how fast does it dry?
Yes very easy to wash, cover and nappy just in normal rinse and wash with my other nappies. I leave cover clipped to nappy on one end to make sure water circulates around it fully. It is one of the longest drying nappies I have but it’s bamboo and has advantage of being very absorbent.

Reliability?
No leaks so far, even just after a bottle.

Absorbency – are you getting a good length of time out of it?
Yes 3 lasted me all day.ie from about 9am to 6pm. I also used at night with extra boosters and had no leaks. Maybe they could be suppplied with booster/s as wouldnt be confident to use it at night without. But maybe it’s better marketing to encourage customers to buy the extra boosters for night use depending on competitor pricies and strategies.

The Duo Nappy: A sceptic’s review

August 9th, 2011

I think I should declare a few things before I get into my review. Firstly, I absolutely love my Motherease One-size cloth nappies. I think they are the best nappy ever and I honestly wonder why anyone would use any other nappy. Secondly, I do not hold All-in-One nappies in high regard. I think they are a bit of a waste of money and resources. It always seemed rather pointless to buy a nappy attached to the cover because once the cover lost its waterproof properties, the perfectly good nappy had to be thrown with it. Finally, I do promise this will be an honest and unbiased review (really, it will).

I love my current nappies, so why did I bother testing these Duo nappies? I was really intrigued by the idea. One thing the AIO nappies have always had over the One-Size was the trimness. This was an issue for me early on when I felt I couldn’t use the One-Size nappies because they were just too bulky. If the Duo nappies had been around then, I probably would have bought them. It really does seem like the best of both worlds – the longevity of the One-Size combined with the trimness of the AIO nappies.

Trimness & Fit

They certainly are slimming! I could really tell the difference because my daughter’s pants were much looser and I could see more of her thighs. I was happy with the fit but that was only for day time use. At night, I normally use double boosters but I couldn’t get two boosters in these nappies comfortably. I tried them with a single booster and found they performed well but if I were using these nappies full time, I think I would have a few larger versions of these nappies on hand for night time use for extra absorbancy with the double booster.

Putting On & Taking Off

The removable cover is a great idea but does it work in practice? Sort of. I used these nappies for a few weeks and I found they were quicker to put on because you essentially have an AIO nappy (provided the cover is already buttoned onto the nappy) whereas with my One-size, I have to button the nappy and then the cover on top. Taking the Duo nappy off is an entirely different matter. I actually found it was more time consuming because you can’t just take the nappy off and dump it in the bucket. You have to set it aside somewhere, finish changing your baby and then deal with the used nappy. If it’s a wee you have to deal with, it’s not so bad. A poo however, oh boy, can that get messy. I should mention here that I used my Motherease liners in addition to the Duo nappy and  and the poos I’m dealing with are that of a 11 month old so we’re talking anything from nice solid little logs to real sticky messes that need a scraper to get off. Whenever I have a poo in the One-size nappy, I use the liner to wipe any excess from my daughter’s bottom and then fold the nappy over, put it in the nappy bucket. With the Duo nappy, it’s not so simple. I found the liner would be all wrinkled up inside the nappy most of the time and when I undid the nappy, it would all sort of spring back because of the elasticised legs. The poo would be spread out over the liner and I couldn’t use use it to wipe my daughter’s bottom at all so when I dragged the nappy out, I’d always end up getting poo on the cover which then made it useless for the rest of the day. Then I had to put the pooey nappy somewhere, put my daughter somewhere and then try and unbutton the cover from the nappy without getting poo on myself.

I admit that using the liners probably contributed to the difficulty of dealing with a dirty nappy but using a nappy without a liner is a horrific thought for me. If Motherease was to design a more suitably shaped liner for these nappies, I think it would go a long way to making them more user friendly.

Washing & Drying

Washing these nappies is no different to my current nappies. As mentioned above, it is more time consuming to deal with the nappy once it’s dirty. If I were to use these nappies full time, I would have a rotation of at least 6 covers – 3 in rotation being used and 3 in the wash. At the end of each nappy change, I’d put the used cover on a clean nappy, ready for the next change.

Drying times are something I have not been able to test thoroughly with it being winter and my place not the sunniest. I can compare them to my current nappies favourably as I found that even though they often didn’t dry completely due to the weather, they did feel drier than my One-Size nappies. I was surprised by this as they feel thicker throughout the whole nappy whereas the One-Size has most of it’s thickness down the centre.

Overall

I know Motherease makes wonderful products. Almost everything nappy related that I own is made by them so I know these Duo nappies are high quality nappies. I want to say they are the best thing since the One-Size nappies but for me, they don’t come close to superseding or even equalling my current nappy system. The detachable cover is a great idea but in practice I feel like it makes things just that bit more complicated. Having said that, I do see a place for these nappies in my life and that is going to be when baby number two comes along. I used disposables for the first 2-3 months of my daughters’ life and probably spent a few hundred dollars on them. Next time around, I’ll definitely use these nappies because of their trimness and I think they would perform perfectly well with breastfed poos which are much easier to deal with and far less messy than what I encounter now. If there’s a baby number three, I could use them again and if not, they can always be sold so in the end it would be worth it.

My List of Pros & Cons

PROS

Trim fit

Quick to put on (if cover already snapped on)

Dry relatively quickly

Cute designs

Durable (could last through 3+ kids)

Economical (as compared to AIOs)

CONS

Slow and fiddly to take cover off dirty nappy

Dealing with poo can be messy (with an solids-fed, wrigglier baby)

More expensive overall than One-Size nappies

Wizard Duo – what the testers are saying …

July 15th, 2011

We are starting to get some feedback from our testers on the new Wizard Duo nappy. They are loving the versatility of this great design.

Wizard Duo Cover with Insert

Sharon wrote:
Initial thoughts on the nappy were that the inserts were extremely soft and fluffy, it made me excited to try the nappy on my bub. The cover however didn’t make a good impression, it looked cheaply made and a little too close to plastic.

The fit is alright. My only concern is that the crotch is very wide and so the elastic leaves marks around bub’s legs. My other nappies usually sit closer and so sit in nicely in the hip crease. Due to the wide crotch the nappy looks very large in comparison to our other sized nappies. (Bub is around 10.5kg) Having said that, the nappy was surprisingly trim and not bulky in the least.

The nappy is very easy to wash and snap on. I like that the snaps are covered. Some of the inserts had their tag on the inside (touching bub’s skin) which I didn’t like but one insert had the tag on the outside (in between the cover and the insert) which I preferred.

Reliability – fantastic. Absorbency – fantastic. The longest we’ve used it is 4 hours. I will have to try it overnight and see how we go.

Overall, there are positive and negative features of the nappy but we we will keep using the nappy. I absolutely love the softness and texture of the bamboo and cotton inserts and they are my favourites!

Update!
Wanted to let you know that we tried the nappy overnight and it was fantastic. CJ is a very heavy wetter but these held up well for 12 hours (with an additional booster).

Very happy with the nappy :)

Note from Louise
Covers – the Wizard Covers are made from super-strength PUL so that they will last longer than regular covers. The feel is a little different but what you are actually looking at is quality – not plastic!
Tags – since they brought out this design Mother-ease have realised the issue with the tags and all the new inserts are coming with their tags on the back away from the baby’s bottom.

I love them! Initial thoughts were that they weren’t going to work with Kye’s skinny legs as there was a bit of leg gape with both the uno and the duo – but they worked great! The duo was easy to snap together and I like the boostability (is that a word lol) of the Uno. Love the feel and the prints. Haven’t used them a lot yet but so far so good. I prefer a One Size normally but these are great.

They are great. I think Annelise would still fit into the Small even though she weighs 10kg. They fit nicely and no leaks at all. I used the Duo last night with the additional booster from the Onesize easy stuff and it was terrific.

They are all very absorbent, easy to wash and dry.

The Uno and Duo are a little baggy but I have put that down to Annelise probably would still fit into a small, but the Medium still fitted, but there was a little gapping at the legs which I think if she was in the small size there would be no gapping at all. Having said that they still didn’t leak at all :)

No of them left any marks on the legs or waist which was great too.

Love them.

Wizard EasyStuff – What the testers are saying …

First thoughts when I saw the nappy: cute, looked like it would be comfortable and reliable. I also thought it was an odd designed pocket nappy and worried about the inserts moving about seeing the nappy wasn’t enclosed with one opened area like a normal pocket nappy.

Fit: I was extremely happy with the fit, it adjusted well and actually looked and felt comfortable on my baby. I think the it would have been a good fit earlier on as well.

Use: It was extremely ease to put together with it being a more open nappy rather than a traditional pocket nappy. Very quick assembly which is what I like.

Washing/drying: Washed very easily as per instructions. I do use disposable liners so the nappy stayed clean. The drying time was very quick. I dried them outside cloth side up in under two hours and the inserts took a little longer. First thought is that they were a little drier after the wash cycle then other boosters I have used. (I have a selection of Bumcheeks/Monk n Bears, Issy Bears and Charlie Bananas.

Reliability: Very reliable, they are now my favourite nappy as they didn’t leak at all and I got a long time out of each nappy.

Absorbency: I was very happy with the absorbency and got four-five hours out of each use with a single booster. The fabric drew moisture away from bub as well so he was comfortable during use.

Overnight use: I used them overnight, from 8-6 with two boosters. No leakages, and they absorbed very well. I generally use a disposable overnight as every other nappy I trialled at night leaked even with several boosters. (I do have a heavy wetter). I would definitely continue to use them overnight.

I think for me they are more reliable than other nappies I have used as I haven’t had one single leakage in six days of using them three times a day. I also like that they are quite a compact nappy, not too bulky. I like the quality of the boosters, they are ultra absorbent and will interchange these boosters with other nappies for performance. I loved the design, comfort and the assurance that they won’t leak.

I hadn’t used any Motherease nappies prior to this, and as I love them so much will definitely be adding more Motherease to my nappy stash in the future.

I have to say, I’m pretty impressed with the Mother Ease Easy Stuff nappies. The prints were so cute, mine have smiley sea creatures on them. My two year old was drawn to them, and quickly tried to dress her dolly in them! I prewashed them, as was suggested, and was surprised at how quickly they dried. I have to admit, I did cheat, and use the dryer, but usually, it taked two cycles to dry my nappies, but not with these! That saves my electricity bill! What a bonus!

I love that they’re well fitted around the legs, twice, on the lining, as well as the outside of the nappy. Double protection against leakage! I’ve tried other pocket nappies with no elastic around the legs, and watched my daughter wee all over the ground, leaving the nappy dry. No such problem with the Easy stuff! Also, the Easy Stuff doesn’t look bulky, like the other pocket nappies I have. No one would guess she’s wearing a cloth nappy at all.

SO, all in all, I really am happy with these nappies, and would recommend them to anyone who wants to try pocket nappies! I was a bit dubious about trying them, because I haven’t had the best experience with pocket nappies before, but I’m so glad I gave them a go!

Wizard Uno – What the testers are saying

June 9th, 2011

Check out some of the feedback that we are getting from our Wizard Uno testers!
You can see the details of this nappy here Mother-ease Wizard Uno All in One Nappy

A couple of things are striking me:
- the fit – every person has commented on the great fit
- the reliability – every person has commented on the reliability
- the quick drying time – v. important at this time of year!

Fit and reliability – what more could you want?
A few people have commented on the contoured shape and I have to say this struck me too. You just can’t get this nappy to lay flat – it’s a nightmare for packing and shipping (!) but it makes sense – baby’s are not flat! I’m sure this is the key to the great fit and reliability.

Here is the feedback “in the raw”
From Lauren
- super-easy to use, no bits to put together
-no leaks (its been shocking here…. im blaming lack of sun ! – but yes, disposables at night are leaking too… :(
- like the contour of the insert, seems to add to the seal/water/mess integrity !
- quick dry !!!!! (vip at the moment!)
- easy to boost (so far, 2hours at the moment – heavy wetters :)
- trim (the booster im using – bamboo tri-fold is actually quite trim, but obviously it does add some bulk to the nappy)

From Kirsten
I love them! Initial thoughts were that they weren’t going to work with Kye’s skinny legs as there was a bit of leg gape with both the uno and the duo – but they worked great! The duo was easy to snap together and I like the boostability (is that a word lol) of the Uno. Love the feel and the prints. I prefer a One Size normally but these are great. Loving them!

From Amanda
Love the design and cute covers! Easy to put on and they dry well.

From Cindy
It is really good, the only thing i would change is the adjustment/placement of the snaps as there isnt much adjustment between the tightest and loosest settings. But i do love the large size, it fits my 2yo really well on the tightest setting. [Comment from me: I think the small adjustment and weight ranges that Cindy mentions contribute to the perfect fit of these nappies.]

Would love to hear from anyone else who has had a chance to try these nappies out! Please post your feedback below :-)
