SAVANNA
A savanna is a rolling grassland scattered with shrubs and isolated trees, which can be found between a tropical rainforest and desert biome. Not enough rain falls on a savanna to support forests. Savanna's have a very long, dry winter season. Summers bring the monsoon rains. Both the plants and animal species have adapted to this extreme environment. Grazers co-exist with browsers, (those who eat leaves off trees) who provide food for carnivores. Each species has it's own food preference, making it possible to live side by side and not be in competition for food. They all depend on each other to keep the environment in balance.

Arid and sparse. Here is our Savanna.
Shades of yellow and green reflect the artist's interpretation of the dry and wet seasons that form the savanna. Lone Acacia trees are interspersed here and there creating an arid look so indicative of these grasslands. This print features a few of the most endangered species on the earth. The very large, and very endangered African elephant, and the Javan rhinoceros, with less than 100 left in the world are found in abundance here in this print. The long legged Reticulated giraffe co-habitates with the Grevy's zebra. The colours used in this print help identify the species and are quite true to their natural colours with the exception of the hippopotamus, which the artist has humorously painted a muddy shade of pink. Cautiousness is reflected in the faces of the herbivores since there are lions on the prowl. |
