Why Cloth?
If you are considering using cloth nappies you are not on your own. Many people are turning back to cloth and
loving it. Here are just a few reasons why ...
Cloth nappies are very cost effective. About $700 worth of good quality, fitted cloth nappies will
see you through at least one baby. Add to this around $500 of washing expenses (including detergent,
electricity and wear and tear on your machine) and the total cost is about $1200. This compares with
between $2,000 - $3,000 for each baby if using disposables. (Exact cost depends on the brand of disposable used.)
Fitted cloth nappies are convenient and easy to use. Today’s nappies require
no special washing treatments or “nappy soakers”. Modern fastening techniques such as
snaps (like
plastic press-studs), Snappi or Velcro make them easy to put on and ensure they stay fastened.
Fitted cloth nappies are comfortable and natural next to baby’s sensitive skin. Modern nappies are made from 100% cotton with waterproof, breathable covers for maximum comfort. Modern fitted shapes are not bulky and do not restrict baby’s leg movement.
Fitted cloth nappies are very reliable. The fitted shape, elasticised legs and waist and soft, breathable covers ensure the nappy stays on, stays up and provides leak-proof protection for newborns right through to toddlers.
Cloth nappies do not create excess landfill waste.
Cloth nappies provide a safe and hygienic way of disposing of baby’s wastes. Waste is disposed of in the sewer
where it can be properly treated and released back into the environment.
And last but not least, fitted cloth nappies make baby look really, really cute!
